Ostensibly a straightforward record of a 1979 concert at New York City's Carnegie Hall that reunited the legendary folk quartet the Weavers -- Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman -- Fred Jim Brown's documentary refracts the turbulent history of America in the 1950s and '60s through the folk movement. Narrated by Hays, the group's bass singer (who died from complications of diabetes shortly after the film's release), it includes thrilling footage of the Weavers performing such classics as "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore" and "Wimoweh (the Lion Sleeps Tonight)," as well as less familiar songs like "
Hay una Muher," a devastating protest ballad ...
