Sellers is outstanding as a Leo Fitzjohn, a retired general looking to escape a bleak existence in this fine adaptation of Jean Anouilh's bittersweet stage comedy. The film opens just before the outbreak of WWI. Fitzjohn has retired from the army and now lives on his manor with his shrewish wife, Emily (Leighton), whom he can't stand.
