A fairly controversial film at the time, WALPURGIS NIGHT deals with the scandal of abortion. Bergman plays the loyal secretary of businessman Hanson, whom she loves from afar. Hanson is married to Carlsson, a cold and unemotional woman who refuses to bear children because she fears the
effects pregnancy and childbirth would have on her body. Much to her dismay, Carlsson becomes pregnant and decides to have an abortion rather than tell her husband, who would gladly welcome a child. Unfortunately, the abortionist's medical records fall into the hands of a blackmailer and he comes
calling on Carlsson. There is a struggle for the papers and Carlsson accidentally shoots...
