Both Anjelica Huston and her father John would like to forget they ever made this film, which was designed as Anjelica's debut in motion pictures. Unfortunately Miss Huston wasn't quite ready for the silver screen (she's getting better--see PRIZZI'S HONOR), and the results are spotty at best. Set in the Middle Ages during the Hundred Years War, the film opens with Dayan (son of Israeli soldier-politician Moshe) wandering through the French countryside trying to avoid the death and destruction around him. Soon he meets Huston, the young daughter of a nobleman, and the pair fall in love. They decide to flee the country together; but the war overcomes them, and they are eventually killed in a monastery after performing their own wedding ceremony. Although not a total disaster (director Huston successfully creates an accurate portrayal of life in the Middle Ages), the performances of Anjelica and Dayan are not strong enough to carry the film. leave a comment
