Walk the Line's Reese Witherspoon
While favorites Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) walked away with the top acting honors at Sunday's Oscars, Crash pulled an upset by lassoing the best-picture trophy away from Brokeback Mountain. In the supporting slots, Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener) and the never-fails-to-impress George Clooney (Syriana) grabbed gold. One of the night's other surprises came when rap group Three 6 Mafia's raucous "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" (from Hustle & Flow) merited the Academy Award for best song. Bonds on Bonds, a reality show chronicling Giants slugger Barry Bonds' pursuit of Hank Aaron's career home-run record, will debut April 4 on ESPN2.... The N will begin airing Summerland repeats on May 1 and start unspooling the entire Dawson's Creek library sometime this fall.... TiVo is considering handing out free DVRs in exchange for a slightly higher monthly fee, reports Jack Myers' MediaVillage.com.... The 43rd-annual publicists' awards handed out top kudos to the flacks for Walk the Line and TV's Lost in a Wednesday ceremony. (Ironically, I received no press release about this.)

Jena Malone in Pride & Prejudice
Of all the multinominated films vying for Academy Awards this Sunday, Pride & Prejudice may be the most overlooked. The latest adaptation of Jane Austen's ageless tale picked up four nominations — including a best-actress nod for Keira Knightley — but its buzz is nowhere near that of higher-profile contenders such as Walk the Line and Brokeback Mountain. Jena Malone, who plays Knightley's on-screen sister Lydia is a bit skeptical of putting too much stock in awards, but she hopes the extra attention will bring new audiences to the film. Walk the Line star Joaquin Phoenix managed to escape unscathed when his car's brakes went out, leading the vehicle to overturn and collide with another on the Sunset Strip Thursday afternoon. According to his publicist, Phoenix was able to walk away due to his seat belt — and the nifty air-bag deployment feature on his tricked-out Golden Globe.

Before the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild award nominations come out today, let's quickly recap all of the kudos handed out on Wednesday by two other biggies. Eva Longoria probably isn't feeling too Desperate this morning. The perpetual award-show bridesmaid scored a long-overdue Golden Globe nod on Tuesday morning, joining cast mates Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross in the lead actress (comedy) race. Still, Eva's probably not the happiest of the Housewives today. That award goes to Huffman, doubly nominated for the sudser and her gender-bending turn in Transamerica.
