Wake Up And Die

Decent crime thriller starring Hoffmann as a petty thief who pulls a daring escape from Italian police and suddenly finds himself splashed across the newspapers as some sort of daring criminal mastermind. Unfortunately, Hoffmann makes the mistake of believing his own press, and he begins living up to his print reputation as a killer. Eventually, Hoffmann's wife Gastoni sets him up in order to stop the killing and have him put away. At the last minute she changes her mind and tries to help Hoffmann escape, but he is too far gone to listen to reason and stupidly tries to take on the police, who wound and capture him.
