The ceremonies of the Balinese get a trivialized movie treatment in this borderline documentary that throws an intrusive story line onto island legends. The thin plot has a witch causing havoc as her son falls for the girl next door. To save the romance (in addition to wiping out a plague)
the witch is exorcised and killed. The filmmakers show no respect for their subject, resulting in a condescending piece of tripe. Ironically, the movie had its New York opening at a former striptease emporium.
