WAITING FOR THE MOON is a quasibiography about Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas that contains almost no factual information. Instead it attempts to document the spirit of Stein and Toklas. The film is broken down into five days chosen from a three-month period as it follows Stein (Linda
Bassett) and Toklas (Linda Hunt), American expatriates living in Paris during the artistically explosive 1920s. What is so admirable about WAITING FOR THE MOON is that director Jill Godmilow and her coscreenwriter Mark Magill attempt to probe the mystique that surrounded the pair. WAITING FOR THE
MOON does boast some superb performances, most notably the chameleonlike Hunt.
