Scott B and Beth B had long been making successful short films that correspond to the artistic attitudes of the New Wave movement of the 1970s and 1980s when they undertook this 16mm project. Their earlier films were harsh, flashy in technique, and insightfully pessimistic, and this attempt to make a commercially viable picture using the same techniques was a hard task to take on. Only by taking a camp approach could they hope to be successful, but "camp" can date quickly and only time will tell if this film will appeal to future audiences. A film noirish atmosphere is created to show detective Lunch (a popular underground musician and poet) plow her way through the plans of a corporate businessman who seeks government defense contracts through real "corporate wars" and the manipulation of politicians. Though not without its merits, especially in the form of Lunch, a really stunning performer, this picture is more tedious than entertaining. leave a comment
