Albers plays a wealthy industrialist unable to find the needed affection or love once his wife dies. Though an affair with a younger woman puts some life back into the man, the disapproval of his family causes this relationship to dissolve. A biting look at the hypocrisy of the wealthy. Released in West Germany in 1956, this film was based on the play by Gerhart Hauptmann which also provided the inspiration for DER HERRSCHER (1937). leave a comment
