A tearjerker in which truck driver Ontkean romances the deaf Irving. Incorporated into the goings on are his desire to become a singer and her dream of dancing. This and the fact that the two of them are uneasy with their families are the binding forces in their relationship. The film
could have been a lot sappier than it is, with high points coming from the characterizations of the misanthropic members of Ontkean's family. Director Markowitz also makes interesting use of the soundtrack, emphasizing Irving's deafness by contrasting soundless moments with a rock 'n' roll
