In the twilight of his career, Scott went to England to make this confusing picture which casts him in his usual role of the suave no-gooder. Here he is the object of vengeance for Domergue, whose husband Horsley had been convicted and sentenced to death for a murder that Scott actually
committed. The inclusion of a number of subplots only serves to take away from the film's pacing and movement.
