When growing numbers of incoming oil workers become more than the local police force of a backwoods California town can manage, Kristofferson is called in to try to maintain order. A Vietnam veteran, he brings in some of his buddies, and soon gets the town under control. Their new-found power goes to their heads and they virtually take over the small town.
