Loren stars as the mother of Albertini, a young man on trial for the murder of Catala, in this melodrama. Because of Albertini's father's reputation as a gangster, the young man's outlook seems dim. Hoping to free her son, Loren calls on Gabin, an influential French judge in Lyon. She secures her son's acquittal by kidnaping the diabetic wife of Gabin, thereby blackmailing Gabin into being lenient.
