A novelette by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (from whose name the word "masochism" was derived) provided the inspiration for this weird tale that depicts mystical occurrences as they transpire in the mind of musician Darren. After witnessing the brutal murder of a beautiful woman (McNair) by three assailants--Kinski, a sadist; Lee, a lesbian; and Price, a homosexual--Darren encounters McNair in a night club. The murderers also pop up, but this time they are victimized by McNair and Darren departs with her. It's all a confusing rumination on the blurred lines between fantasy and reality, with little insight offered. It's nicely atmospheric, though, and it's quite a change of pace for Darren, who had achieved his greatest success as Moondoggie in the "Gidget" films of the 60s. leave a comment
