Vengeance Valley

1951, Movie, NR, 83 mins

A decent western that places more emphasis on character development than the usual oater, this film stars Lancaster and Walker as foster brothers. Walker, a real louse, has always depended on Lancaster to get him out of sticky situations, but he goes too far when he sees to it that Lancaster is falsely blamed for fathering an illegitimate baby, an accusation that causes the mother's brothers to pursue Lancaster with the intent of making him pay for his cowardly deed. Walker even joins in with the brothers, hoping to secure Lancaster's portion of the ranch. Solid performances and a penetrating script are hampered by uneven direction by Richard Thorpe, who is obviously more at ease with the action than with the interpersonal segments. leave a comment
