Dispatches from Anderson Cooper

Anderson Cooper

Whether he's keeping 'em honest on his nightly newsmagazine, Anderson Cooper 360 (10 pm/ET on CNN), or tackling personal demons amid the horrors of Iraq and Katrina in his new book, Dispatches from the Edge, Anderson Cooper has a style all his own. TV Guide: I spent the weekend reading your book and let me tell you, it's pretty dark. Working out some issues here, huh?Cooper: [Laughs] Well, yeah... I guess. TV Guide: Of course, between covering wars and natural disasters, this has been a tough year for you.Cooper: read more

Have you seen Keri Russell in ...

Question: Have you seen Keri Russell in the new issue of Vanity Fair? She looks beautiful!

Answer: I have seen it and yes, she looks stunning. Having said that, I'm not sure how I feel about the whole world getting a peek at her bare bum.

WHAT'S NEW IS NEW AGAIN

Teri Hatcher's confession to Vanity Fair about the sexual abuse she endured as a child has been billed as the "first time" she has broached the topic — unless, that is, you count an interview she gave TV Guide nearly a decade ago. In the magazine's June 15, 1996, issue, Hatcher explained her volunteer work with teenage girls by saying, "In my own way, I understand the pain of abuse. [There is] a specific connection to why I do that." After a pause, she added, "There. I don't think I have ever said that before. That will be new." Until 10 years later, that is. read more

BY GEORGE, THEY'VE (NOT) GOT IT?

Well-placed sources tell the New York Post that the "Mystery Man" referred to in Teri Hatcher's Vanity Fair interview — that is, the lover who dispatched her in such a way that the Desperate Housewives star was shaken enough to come forth about her sexual abuse as a child — is none other than George Clooney. A rep for the newly minted Oscar winner tells the Post, "I doubt very seriously that your source is credible." UPDATE!!! Clooney tells Friday's Access Hollywood the speculation "isn't true," adding that it "takes away from [Hatcher's] brave decision" to help incarcerate her molesterread more

HATCHER'S SEX-ABUSE CONFESSION

In a cover-story interview for Vanity Fair, Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher reveals that at the age of 5, she was the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her uncle — and just a few years ago played a major role in having him prosecuted and sentenced to 14 years in prison for molesting someone else. "I'm 41 years old and it's time for me to stop hiding," she tells the magazine. "I don't want to pretend it didn't happen anymore." read more

Eva Longoria Sets the Record Straight

Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria

When Eva Longoria arrived at ABC's winter press-tour party at the Wind Tunnel in Pasadena, Calif., TVGuide.com cozied up to the Desperate Housewives star, who was more than happy to speak on a variety of topics, including the casting of her TV mom, her romance with San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker and, yes, that much-publicized Vanity Fair cover shoot. First up: "I'm thrilled," the brunette beauty enthuses of Chasing Papi's Maria Conchita Alonso being hired as her Housewives mami, first appearing in the Feb. 19 episode. "We're going to learn [through Lucia] why Gaby is the way that she is." While the popular prime- read more

LOHAN "APPALLED" BY DRUG CONFESSION

Lest she fall out of the headlines — seriously, does she have a movie coming out? — Lindsay Lohan has released a statement to Teen People saying that she is "appalled" by this month's Vanity Fair profile in which she cops to once using drugs "a little" as well as having battled bulimia. "[My words] were misused and misconstrued," claims the freckled femme. Vanity Fair, which has the interview on tape, stands by its story. read more

IN MEMORIAM

Vincent Schiavelli, whom Vanity Fair named one of America's best character actors in 1997, died of lung cancer at his home in Sicily on Monday, at age 57. Some of Schiavelli's memorable turns came in Ghost (as the angry subway specter), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (as science teacher Mr. Vargas) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (as Frederickson).... Actress Argentina Brunetti, whose credits include the role of Martini's wife in It's a Wonderful Life, died in her sleep on Dec. 20. She was 98. read more

DESPERATE FOR LAUGHS

Eva Longoria

Does Eva Longoria have a hankering for Peacock? The Desperate Housewives minx — who reportedly ruffled feathers at ABC when she granted an exclusive interview to Dateline NBC — will jump networks again when she hosts Saturday Night Live on Nov. 19. Personally, I think it's great — mostly because I'm dying to see a spoof of that Vanity Fair cover shoot. (Memo to Lorne Michaels: If you do this for me, all's forgiven for this season.) read more

Any new spoilers for ...

Question: Any new spoilers for Desperate Housewives? I'm desperate.

Answer: First off, was I the only one who felt Sunday's premiere marked a huge improvement over last season? The pacing was quicker, the writing sharper and the performances flawless. Two scenes stand out for me as instant laugh-out-loud classics: Lynette changing her daughter's diaper during her job interview and Bree replacing Rex's tie in the middle of his funeral. (Oh, and loyal AA readers must've experienced a sense of déjà vu when Betty Applewhite and her son ventured down into the basement dungeon to feed their prisoner.) On the spoiler front, I'm not one to tout a rival sleuth, but USA Today's Will Keck dropped more than a few plot nuggets in his front-page story last Friday. Among the doozies: A wedding will take place early this season, and someone will die within the first 13 episodes. Unfortunately, read more
