A rock 'n' roll prison farm where all the inmates dance to the 1950s teen beat. Van Doren and Nelson are a shapely pair who get tossed in the slammer for 30 days after being caught hitchhiking. They probably should have gotten the chair, the lousy vagrants. It turns out that the prison farm is a front for Russell's cotton-picking operation. When one girl is overworked, has a miscarriage, and dies, trouble comes along and jitterbugs on Russell's illegitimate scheme. Why does Eddie Cochran, one of the 1950s' top rockers, only get to sing one song? He delivers "Cottonpicker" (Les Baxter), while Van Doren (not one of the 1950s' top rockers) belts out "Salamander," "Go, Go, Calypso" (Baxter), "Rolling Stone" (Baxter, Lenny Adelson), and `Oobala Baby" (Baxter, Adelson, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Capehart). leave a comment
