In the tradition of CHARIOTS OF THE GODS-style pseudo-science, this second-rate horror picture suggests that space aliens once pow-wowed with Native Americans. Professor Peter Jensen (Richard Hatch) assembles an expedition in search of an ancient burial ground, but his starry-eyed students are clueless about his mercenary motives. Flanked by bodyguards posing as lovers on ancient artifacts, Jensen has duped his entourage, including research assistant Kate (Cindi Braun), into helping him raid archeologically priceless tombs. Native American Dana (Cindy Pena) refuses to cooperate in the scavenging of sacred territory, but Jensen ignores her protests. Little does he know that the cave they're excavating contains more than artifacts; it's also the hunting ground of a dormant alien being. Many moons ago, local tribes supplied this creature with virginal sacrifices. Now that its resting place has been disturbed, the invisible invader cuts Dana to ribbons, attacks Jensen's main flunky, Norman (Jere Jon), and strands the invaders by slashing the tires on their jeep. Though the space carnivore might be placated by the return of its trinkets, Jensen adamantly refuses to return the valuables. The last-ditch intervention of ranger Chuck McNeil (Tim Thomerson) proves nothing except that bullets don't phase this extra-terrestrial spirit. Can the victimized students escape the creature, or has Jensen's duplicity doomed them all? It's hard to feel bad for spelunkers too stupid to run away from an invisible menace, or to get excited about a monster movie so cheap it can't be bothered to supply a monster. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
