A satisfying remake of THE LETTER, this makes a comment on the social aspects of divorce and adultery. Sheridan is stricken with guilt over an affair she began while her husband was in the service. The relationship survives until Sheridan kills an attacker outside of her home who is
identified as her lover. The marriage breaks apart, which allows for a reconciliation at the finale. Coscripted by pulp writer David Goodis, whose work became the inspiration for a handful of French New Wave films.
