A dull, slow-moving, but satisfyingly campy mad-scientist-operates-on-humans picture, THE UNEARTHLY stars John Carradine as Prof. Charles Conway, a scientist driven to find the secret of eternal youth. He is assisted in his operations by a mutant named Lobo (Tor Johnson of PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE). Grace Thomas (Allison Hayes) is a disturbed young woman who is sent to the professor's hideaway by an unscrupulous doctor. Undercover investigator Mark Houston (Myron Healey) fears Grace will be turned into another of the professor's failed experiments and doomed to live the life of a mutant in the laboratory's secret cellar. The pair fall in love, and lumbering Lobo finally comes to their aid. Keeping to tradition, all the evil folks are killed off by the finish, but when the police finally arrive to search the premises, they uncover a cellar full of subhuman creatures. The film closes on one policeman's query: "What if they do live forever?" leave a comment
