Steven Soderbergh fuses the steamy ironic elements of his debut feature, sex, lies, and videotape, with a film-noir tale of betrayal and greed based on the 1949 Robert Siodmak classic Criss Cross. Peter Gallagher stars as a onetime chronic gambler who returns to his hometown hoping to reunite with his ex-wife (Alison Elliot), but winds up tangling with a ruthless nightclub owner (William Fichtner).
