One of eight Zane Grey adaptations helmed by Hathaway within a two-year period, UNDER THE TONTO RIM lacks one major contribution that his other Grey pictures had--Randolph Scott. Erwin turns in a barely average performance as a not-too-bright cowpoke who proves his worth and wins over his boss' daughter by doing so. A remake of a 1928 silent, which bears almost no similarities to this picture. The story again made it to the screen in 1947, and again had nothing in common with either of the others but the title. leave a comment
