Philip Kaufman's adaptation of Milan Kundera's acclaimed novel isn't the masterpiece the book probably deserves, but it features a trio of great performances. Set in Czechoslovakia shortly before the 1968 Soviet invasion, it features Daniel Day-Lewis as a young surgeon who falls in love with shy, provincial Juliette Binoche.
