Collier mistakenly believes that his wife has had another lover before him. Filled with shame, he joins the French Foreign Legion and goes to Algeria, where he falls in love with Bennett, the mistress of the cruel adjutant. When their romance is revealed a gun accidentally discharges and
Bennett is hit. Before she dies she arranges for Collier's escape. He is finally captured, but the adjutant shows mercy and lets him return to his wife, who waits with her all-forgiving open arms. A typical melodrama which manages to insult modern views of romance and relationships.
