Only the sheer force of Sandra Bullock's apparently ingenuous charm keeps this sodden romantic comedy afloat. Bullock and formerly dyspeptic comedian Denis Leary play mismatched working-class lovers: He's a lunkheaded Irish thief who couldn't swipe a Blow Pop from the
proverbial baby; she's a Jewish bookstore clerk with vague aspirations to a better life. After he manages to steal a valuable painting, they're forced, improbably, to hide out in a swank mansion while waiting to meet a mysterious buyer. Will exposure to upper-class blandishments lure Bullock away
from Leary? You know the answer, but you won't care.
