Infidelity--real and imagined--is at the heart of this tale which takes place in a decidedly upper-middle class millieu. Dern is an American writer, Audran a French socialite, and Margret "oh so cool." There is suspicion and doubt aplenty, but, despite an excellent cast that boasts some
talented American and French performers, this would-be adult comedy never goes anywhere. Chabrol's direction is surprisingly lackluster, showing none of his usual insight into character behavior. The production looks handsome, but that's just not enough to compensate for the lack of laughs. A real
disappointment. This was filmed in both French and English language versions.
