Twelve Crowded Hours

A nice crime film has Dix playing a nosy reporter. When his editor is killed Dix stumbles onto a numbers racket run by the nefarious Kendall. Ball is the love interest for Dix. Lane is her kid brother who's mixed up in the racket, requiring the usual rescue from the criminal world by his future brother-in-law. Despite some scripting flaws the cast does its job with vigor. The direction is at a good clip which manages to overcome the unlikely depiction of newspaper life.
