Released seven years after TUGBOAT ANNIE, this sequel tries awfully hard but never captures the charm of the original. Rambeau plays the title role, this time as a widow. She runs a tugboat in the Northwest in competition with Hale. Her company needs $25,000, which she gets without much trouble. When another skipper takes over the tug for a trip to Alaska, Rambeau goes along for the ride and proves to be more than a passenger when they run into trouble. For romantic interest, Reagan and his then offscreen wife Wyman play the unlikely love team of a sailor and a rich socialite. The players give the film a lot of heart, but the script is minor stuff with inadequate direction. This was a surprise considering the studio had invested some otherwise good production values in the film. leave a comment
