Real life father and daughter John and Hayley Mills play two Americans, a widower and his 18-year-old daughter, living in the Caribbean. The daughter meets MacArthur, the nephew of millionaire Tomlinson. He's bored with his life on his uncle's yacht and stays with the pair on their houseboat. The two young people take an immediate liking to one another but romance must be put on hold when MacArthur's former partner Jeffries arrives on the scene. MacArthur has Jeffries invest some money in an expedition for underwater treasures, but the venture proves to be a waste of money when all that's found in the undersea wrecks are skeletons. MacArthur goes back to his uncle's yacht but realizes he loves Mills. He asks her father for permission to marry her and, of course, gets it. Dad leaves the young people on the yacht and takes his houseboat off to new scenery. Though the characters and plot are simplistic, this film is played with good feeling. The cast is quite amiable and makes the modest comedy work nicely. Direction is fine for the film, with good, light pacing. leave a comment
