A predictable plot has Clark as a good-for-nothing gambler who flees San Francisco rather than testify at a murder trial, taking refuge with his former wife, O'Donnell, in Los Angeles. He's actually the killer, although he's being called to the stand only as a witness. Problems erupt when Clark accidentally kills a man who has been pestering O'Donnell, then tries to stage it as an auto accident.
