Its plot is thoroughly implausible, but it's still an entertaining mystery, thanks to the performance of James Woods and Joseph Ruben's brisk direction. Ruben revitalizes the familiar premise — crusading lawyer (Woods) frees innocent man with the help of a young counselor (Robert Downey Jr.) — by setting an exhilarating pace complete with inventive action.
