Three of Stevenson's "Suicide Club" stories were adapted into a single feature, with only limited success, in this production. Montgomery is a Ruritanian prince who is heir to the throne of Karovia. Before he can take his place as ruler and marry his beloved, Russell, Montgomery must wind his way through a nefarious group of killers who set trap after ingenious trap. Montgomery always manages to stay one step ahead and he is finally united with his princess. The story starts out well, setting an intriguing mood of mystery. All too soon, however, this mood is destroyed by unbelievable coincidences and a lagging pace. The film begins as great fun but is ultimately routine and a by-the-book mystery. Despite some good performances by the cast, TROUBLE FOR TWO is a film of promise that, disappointingly, never quite delivers. leave a comment
