Reagan is on the run in Central America because of his involvement with an underground political movement. He ends up in a neighboring country working for Wengraf, a banana grower. Reagan becomes his foreman because of his knowledge of banana growing and soon learns his boss wants to monopolize all of the local banana trade. Wengraf appoints Reagan foreman for Fleming's banana plantation in hopes that he'll help overthrow her. However, Reagan falls for Fleming and plots with her and other banana growers to stop Wengraf from carrying out his evil plans. The story is merely western material transplanted to Central America, substituting fruit growing for cattle ranching. There is some good action, and Reagan's performance is good, but the film lacks any real feeling. Reagan had recently left Warner Bros. and took up life as an independent actor with this picture. Despite the obvious script flaws, he took the assignment, figuring that he owed Paramount a favor for letting him do THE LAST OUTPOST two years previously. leave a comment
