The Trojan Women

Outside the ruined walls of Troy four women lament the fate they have suffered since the city fell to the Greeks. Although the film brings together four top name actresses, the result is not of the quality you might expect. Previously presented by its director as an off-Broadway play, the film suffers from staginess. The performances, all emphasizing the tragedy of war and its aftermath, range from good to below standard. Hepburn, the featured player as the fallen queen of Troy who has lost almost her entire family, gives a fine performance. Pappas plays poor Helen of Troy, whose life has caused the war.
