Jack Lemmon, re-creating the role he performed onstage, is a smart-mouth Broadway press agent whose life is thrown into turmoil when he learns he has leukemia and will die if he doesn't undergo the necessary treatment. Enter Lemmon's son Robby Benson, who couldn't be more different from
his father and who doesn't think much of the way Lemmon lives. Gradually they grow close, and much comedy and many deeply touching moments occur as Benson's earnestness clashes with Lemmon's irresponsibility. Strong performances by Benson and Lemmon are wonderfully supported by Lee Remick as
