Bermuda Triangle theorists may enjoy this predictable travelogue thriller about vacationers who make the mistake of boarding a ghost ship. Forever living beyond his means, Stu Sheridan (Luke Perry) promises girlfriend Julia (Polly Shannon) and his buddies a sea-going vacation near Bermuda. Stu's pals, Tommy Devane (Dan Cortese) and Gus Gruber (David Hewlett), are shocked to discover that their chartered dreamboat has been downsized to a leaky tub piloted by Captain Louis Morgan (Dorian Harewood). Because it's too late to cancel plans, the Yankee tourists make the best of it. Avid reader Gus points out that an ocean liner, The Queen of Scots, vanished from this vicinity on October 19,1939. Before long, Captain Morgan, his clients and first mate Charlie (Olivia D'Abo) find themselves trapped in the infamous Bermuda Triangle, a time-warp and weird magnetic field rolled into one. After their craft stalls, the Queen of Scots appears out of the fog. With a busted fuel pump and no working compass aboard, the vacationers search the luxury liner for spare parts. Having enticed them aboard, the spectral Queen of Scots hangs onto its visitors. In room 116, the malevolent ghost of a homicidal passenger possesses Stu; his lust for the ship's riches becomes tantamount. Then a child's ghost induces a fatal heart attack in Gus. Although Tommy pushes for a speedy departure, the crazed Stu views everyone as an obstacle to wealth and decides to leave the other travelers behind. A photogenic action picture populated by TV stars, this film is the genre equivalent of comfort food. Although the supernatural elements don't elicit any jolts, the script's definition of possession as the magnification of one's intrinsic personality flaws is well handled. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
