Steve Buscemi -- leading character actor of countless independent films -- takes his turn behind the camera, and it's a winner. Tommy Basilio (Buscemi) is what is commonly known as a loser: He's been fired from his job at the garage, he lost his girlfriend to his ex-boss, and he can't even cut it driving his late uncle's (Seymour Cassel) ice cream truck, because he gives kids the creeps. Tommy's also an alcoholic, and the greater part of his day is spent in a stupor on a bar stool at the Trees Lounge, chumming it up the with other not so beautiful losers.
