One of at least five versions of Stevenson's famed story and also one of the most boring, this film is geared strictly for children, and the cast overacts accordingly. The sets are well made (the ship in this film was also used in THE EMIGRANTS [1971]), but the dialog is wooden. Many of
the voices were badly looped in the English-language dubbing that was necessary for some of the players in this multinational production. Welles's Long John Silver has no such excuse; his playing style (he chose to mumble) is difficult to understand. Young Burfield does well in his second featured
