Stark reality mingled with paranoid fantasies in this film about a Vietnam veteran accompanying a fallen friend's body across the US for a proper burial give it an uneasy feeling. Hopper is the vet who experiences flashbacks on the train trip and imagines some of the passengers as people out to get him. He meets up with willful Power (Tyrone's daughter), who provides him with the understanding he needs to exorcise the demons within him. The film ends on a depressing note as Hopper won't help a radical in need, so Power leaves him at the end of his journey.
