Producer-director Pierce did well with the thriller THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK (1972), then hit it big in the southern markets with this supposedly true story about a berserk killer terrorizing the border town of Texarkana. The killer murdered five people back in 1946 but was never caught because he left no clues. The film recounts the story in a drab documentary style, with breaks for clunky narration and some surprisingly bloody murders. Texas Ranger Johnson leads an inept group in the chase as the townspeople start suspecting one another of being the killer. Despite the intriguing premise, Pierce is a stupifyingly unimaginative director, and the film is incredibly dull. leave a comment
