This film about the ghastly fad of "tough man" contests is a dud. Art Long (Dennis Quaid) has a wife and child to support, and his career as a country singer has hit bottom. He's always been a good fighter, so he decides to cash in on the contests. James Neese (Warren Oates), his manager,
wants him to go all the way to the nationals. Quaid smiles all through his part, radiating confidence that he won't ever experience defeat, which leaves no suspense in the story line. The whole thing just drags to the finish.
