Anyone who was privileged to see the original play, with Mary Martin and a wonderful score of 16 songs, will be distressed by this cinematic yawn. Window dresser Eddie Hatch (Robert Walker) kisses a statue of Venus in a department store, whereupon the statue comes to life in the beautiful form of Ava Gardner.
