One Touch Of Venus

Anyone who was privileged to see the original play, with Mary Martin and a wonderful score of 16 songs, will be distressed by this cinematic yawn. Window dresser Eddie Hatch (Robert Walker) kisses a statue of Venus in a department store, whereupon the statue comes to life in the beautiful form of Ava Gardner. Venus' powers bring romance to the store employees and unite true lovers until, 24 hours later, she returns to her immobile state. The film suffers from a witless script, dull direction, and the excision of most of Ogden Nash and Kurt Weill's glorious tunes.
