Director Robert Aldrich's vain attempt to repeat the box-office bonanza of his 1967 hit THE DIRTY DOZEN comes off only adequately. Shot on location in the Philippines with an all-star cast, TOO LATE THE HERO tells a tale of bravery and cowardice among dissimilar men. It's the nadir of WW II, and the Japanese are ensconced on an island in the New Hebrides, where they have an observation base and are able to watch shipping in the area and order air strikes.
