Tony Rome

This entertaining private-eye story features Frank Sinatra in his first hard-boiled detective role as Tony Rome, a former cop who lives a Travis McGee kind of life on his boat in Miami. One-time associate Wilke persuades Sinatra to escort home Lyon, the heiress to a huge fortune owned by her father, builder Oakland. Sinatra is hired by both Oakland and his wife, Rowlands, to find out what's behind Lyon's erratic behavior. He investigates and becomes entangled in an elaborate blackmail scheme, which he gets to the bottom of with the help of the seductive St. John--not before taking a few punches and encountering an assortment of oddball characters.
