Perhaps one of Crosby's weakest films, this one illustrates how several talented people can get wrapped up in a film that goes nowhere. Overman is a play producer having trouble with his tempestuous star, Todd. Bennett is Overman's secretary and Crosby, while wooing her, says that he can write a new musical for Todd in seven days. The rest of the film shows the writing of the score and the play-within-the-screenplay. Needless to say, Crosby's show is a hit. He sings all of the songs (Bennett was no chirper) by Harry Revel and Mack Gordon and none of them is memorable. They include "I Wish I Were Aladdin," "From the Top of Your Head to the Tip of Your Toes," "Without a Word of Warning," "Takes Two to Make a Bargain," "You're Beautiful," and "Two for Tonight." The script for this looks as though it were written in seven days. Ho-hum. leave a comment
