Medical melodrama starring Ladd as a doctor who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, returning to his home town to practice medicine. He meets Young, the daughter of the most powerful man in town, who has contracted meningitis and gone deaf. Though Ladd has always resented the rich family, he just happens to have developed a new serum to cure her deafness. As the movie progresses, the doctor and patient go from active antagonism to genuine respect (and perhaps love?) for each other.
