Tomorrow And Tomorrow

Chatterton goes outside her marriage when her husband, Ames, refuses--or is unable--to father a child. She finds Lukas, a Viennese brain surgeon, has an affair with him, and gets pregnant. She makes both men believe it is Ames' child, until years later when the boy falls from a horse. He is taken to Lukas, who saves the boy's life. Chatterton tells the doctor the truth, but decides to remain with her husband rather than returning to Lukas. Playwright Barry's drama didn't work nearly as well on screen as his high-society comedies such as THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940), but good dialog and fine performances help to salvage this picture.
