A Mexican version of the famed folktale that strays far from its origins. Little Quesada and his six brothers wander into a forest to help their father with his woodcutting work. There, they are accosted by an ogre, Moreno, who looks upon them as lunch. Escaping his clutches, they find themselves at his home, occupied by his ugly wife and seven dirty daughters. Quesada persuades the girls to wash up, and, thus transformed, they become little ladies who persuade their mother to give the boys a magic wand. The wand changes the mother into a beautiful princess and the cannibalistic ogre into a vegetarian gentleman. Suitable for teaching children about what's next to godliness, the film was released in Mexico in 1958. A ridiculously dubbed English-language version was released in the US nine years later. leave a comment
