The makers of TOM THUMB put a lot of effort into providing a realistic and entertaining--for adults as well as children--adaptation of the famous Grimm brothers fairy tale, although their emphasis was almost totally on visuals and the song-and-dance routines rather than on a
well-developed script. Russ Tamblyn is a charmer as the five-inch-tall Tom Thumb, jumping about with unfailing grace and bringing joy to just about everyone's heart. The villainous Ivan and Tony (Terry-Thomas and Peter Sellers), however, plot to exploit his size for their own unsavory purposes.
